Let's go fly a kite

Susanna and I hang up pictures of the letter of the week (although they are always up for more than a week) around our apartment. Right now we are on K and one of our pictures is of a kite. I don't think Susanna had any idea what a kite is when I made and hung up the picture so I decided to go to Pinocchio's Toys to buy the cheapest kite they sold, and today we took it to Kite Hill at Magnuson Park. I learned a few things from the experience:

1) I have no idea how to assemble or fly a kite (I'll have to get some help from my wonderful sister-in-law Miranda who comes from a rich heritage of kite flying).

2) Walking distances that seemed hardly worth mentioning when you didn't have any kids can seem quite long when you have a toddler.

3) Excursions that are in all obvious ways a failure can still be great fun and therefore a rousing success.

Earth Day!

To celebrate Earth Day I am giving you an update on the seeds we planted for FHE as documented here. I am proud to report that there is something growing (perhaps you can see the blurry green line in the bottom photograph)! I admit, I was skeptical not only because I don't have much of a green thumb, but also because Susanna put far more seeds in the pot than the instructions on the package suggested.

Right after taking the top photograph, Susanna dropped the pot, dumping it's contents all over our deck. I replaced the dirt and plants in the pot (and then took the lower photograph) but who knows if those fragile shoots can survive such trauma.

What a Beautiful Day!

Saturday April 12th was a beautiful day-- a taste of what Seattle's summer will be like when it finally arrives. We took advantage of the good weather to go on a short canoe trip (Susanna sang "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" the whole walk to the lake), and then Scott and I took turns going on bike rides.

Third Annual Girls' Night Out

It's General Conference time again! We loved hearing Prophets and Apostles of our Lord, and sustain President Monson as the President of the Church of Jesus Christ with all our hearts. Even Susanna remembers that he said the word "coat" at one point during conference and walked around the house saying "Mah-ey coh."

While Scott attended the Priesthood Session, Susanna and I had our third annual Girls' Night Out (click here to see the other two and to get some more information about what General Conference is); this time we went to Ben & Jerry's and lucky Susanna actually got some of the treat this time!

My brother David, who lives far far away, called to let us know he was on his way into town only to spend the night and fly out the next day, so after Scott got back the three of us picked him up and we went to find some more treats. It was so fun to see him and Susanna fell in love with her uncle "Day-dlblblblbl" right away.
