Sick Kids and Poetry

015

Last week Susanna lived on the couch. To make it more bearable, we purchased Disney’s Jungle Book (a great show). Scott left to rent it and came back with a purchase and I’m glad. She got a little misty eyed at the end when Baloo almost died, but it seems Balooo’s fate had nothing to do with it; “Look mom, Mowgli’s underwear is getting wet!” she cried.

This picture was taken Friday when we went to the beach in our living room. Even her bears got to lay out on hand towels. I don’t know where she was in this picture, probably changing her clothes. It’s great to have Susanna back.

In other news, today was the annual Anderson Poetry Party. Scott submitted an original poem and I like enough I’m going to include here:

I have no poem for your recitation

'Cause I'm busy writing my dissertation

(A process filled with consternation

And computer hard drive transplantation)

So since I'd like to graduate

(So we have some food on every plate)

I'll keep working till my defense date

And next year I'll participate.

I chose this and Susanna, appropriately enough, chose Jack Prelutsky’s “Molly Day,” a poem about a little girl and her four outfits.

Orcas Island

009

Here are some photographs from our fantastic trip to Orcas Island, one of the San Juan Islands.  We had a wonderful time.

On the left is an excited three-year old.  She loved the “ferry-boat.”

Below the three-year-old is watching the troll eat his beans and rice (she has rewritten the end of the classic billy-goats gruff story).

Above is a photograph of Andrew, as well as the backpack in which he was carried, at the end of our hail/Hale hike.

To the left is some of the Hale clan hiking and playing in front of a waterfall.

And below you’ll see what Andrew was doing while his cousins were standing on the log/bridge in front of the waterfall.
